In 2019 fire season was determined to be a year-round threat in many parts of Northern California. Oakland Fire needed to educate homeowners about this new annual “condition” while also providing clear steps to mitigate the dangers.

Challenge: How to get this issue on the public radar screen without causing undue fear or panic?

We started by mapping high-risk fire zones in Oakland, then listing specific activities to protect homes, mostly related to vegetation removal, and finally, identifying helpful City resources.
